Message from the President
September 2024 Message
September 1 is “Disaster Prevention Day” as established by the Japanese government. This year, a major earthquake struck the Noto peninsula on New Year’s Day, and even today, the daily lives of many residents of the area are still being affected.
With fears that a Nankai Trough earthquake will strike in the near future, it is important to hold drills under close-to-disaster conditions, to be constantly aware of evacuation methods and confirmation of people’s safety, and to prepare ourselves so that we can act calmly in the event of an emergency. Taking the opportunity of Disaster Prevention Day, I would like to give renewed consideration, together with our employees, about actions to protect life.
Also, changing our mindset and behavior is crucial not only for disaster prevention but for the growth of each and every employee in their work.
I have visited China several times, where I have seen cars with new functions being developed one after another. Every time, it gives me a sense of crisis about the speed of that development, but at the same time, I wonder how we can connect that to our own learnings.
Even in such difficult circumstances, as one of the components manufacturers that supports Toyota Motor Corporation, we must constantly refine our capabilities in development, technology, manufacturing, and other areas, so we will continue to be a company that is needed.
As one means of achieving this, we have undertaken reforms of our personnel systems and education programs since 2021, revising them into systems that will support employees’ challenges and growth. By steadily implementing a cycle in which each individual continues to take on challenges as they think and act, and the company properly evaluates their processes and outcomes and provides the necessary support, I believe that we will gain a real sense of the mutual growth of the company and its employees. I will continue to support the cultivation of a culture of challenge in which our employees can work actively and energetically with confidence and pride.
